For Food Distributors

You May Not Need A NECS Entree Alternative.

VOS changes one thing only: instead of typing orders in, the kitchen speaks them into the app and signs it off. What arrives is the order they approved, in one of the formats Entree already takes. Entree carries on running your accounting, your warehouse and your EDI.

Why Teams Compare

What people mean by an alternative to NECS Entree

Almost nobody typing that phrase wants to tear out four decades of distribution software. They want one part of the day to improve. Three versions of that come up often enough to be worth separating, and only one of them is a NECS Entree competitor question at all.
Integration icon

Ordering still means someone typing

Entree already offers customer ordering on web and mobile, and both routes have the buyer keying quantities against a search. Plenty of kitchens never take to that at the end of a shift, so the orders carry on coming by phone and your desk keys them anyway.
Integration icon

Everything new is inside the same system

When ordering lives inside the software that runs your company, changing it means changing that software, and it is their module to license and support. Some distributors would rather improve the order without opening that up.
Integration icon

Actually replacing it is a different project

If your real plan is to move off Entree entirely, be honest that the whole back office goes with it. VOS is not that, and we would sooner say so now than sit through the wrong demo with you.
What You Get

What a NECS Entree alternative changes, and what it leaves alone

Dashboard mockup
Voice Ordering

Nothing to find, nothing to type

A chef counts what is low and says it. No search box, no quantity field, no screen to learn. Items come up as a list, they fix anything wrong, and they send. That is the part a web order form has never managed for the accounts who will not use one.
The buyer looks at the list before anything leaves
Spoken from the cooler or the bench, at any hour
20 to 30 minutes back against the same order by phone
Interrupted halfway? It holds the order until they come back
Order Guides

Built from the lists you already maintain

Export what you have. We load each account's items against your codes at the price you hold for them, and that is the setup finished. Nothing inside your distribution software is touched to make it work.
A kitchen sees nothing but the lines it buys
Pricing and the catalog remain yours to set
Change a guide once and it stands on the orders after
Nothing of theirs to add or upgrade

Delivery Formats

It arrives in the formats your system already takes

A finished order leaves as an email carrying a PDF, Excel or Word file, or goes straight in over the API, over EDI, or into QuickBooks. Whichever route your office already trusts is the one it uses.
Addressed to a rep, or to the purchasing desk
On a direct feed there is no rekeying at your end
Picking, billing and delivery carry on unchanged
No part of your stack has to be retired first
Inventory Visibility

Stock in view as each order lands

VOS carries real-time inventory visibility tied to what is being ordered, and the catalog updates as stock levels change. It is not the system of record for stock: yours stays in charge, and a demo shows how the levels connect.
Every line you carry, not only the quick movers
Fewer stockout surprises on a late, heavy order
Numbers come out of whatever you count with now
No counting happens inside VOS

Not Either Or

When VOS and Entree work together

This is the normal case, not the exception. VOS is no sort of NECS Entree replacement: it is the way orders get in, on a system you keep exactly as it is. That is what a NECS Entree alternative usually turns out to mean.
Integration icon

Your records stay where they are

Every number your business runs on keeps living where it lives. VOS passes the order across and leaves your own records alone.
Integration icon

Give the web ordering the accounts that like it

Buyers who happily work through a screen can carry on. VOS is for the part of the book that never adopted it and still telephones, which is where a lot of the morning goes.
Integration icon

Your accounts get the app, your office gets the order

Because VOS is not inside it, your upgrade path is unaffected either way. Nothing here has to wait for a release, and nothing here blocks one.

See it land in a system like yours

Twenty minutes. A buyer talks, the order shows up in the formats your desk already takes, and nothing in Entree was altered to allow it.
Getting Started

Three steps, and nothing opened up

Nobody has to log into Entree to do this. You export lists, we open accounts, your customers order.
1

Export your lists

A spreadsheet out of the system you have is plenty. Items and prices per account go into a single admin screen under the codes you use.
2

We open each customer up

Accounts get created and the kitchen gets shown the app. Most send something in before the day is out.
3

It lands finished

Signed off by the buyer, carrying a number and a time, in the shape your system expects.

"I used to spend hours every week ordering food. Now it's simple, super easy, and I have free time to spend on other aspects of my restaurant."

Distributor Platforms

Not The Same Thing

VoiceOrder Solutions vs Entree.
One of these runs your business.

VOS alters one thing only: how the order gets to your desk. Entree has been food distribution software since 1987 and carries the accounting, the warehouse and the EDI, so a NECS Entree alternative is not a like-for-like swap. Entree wins every row about running the company; read on for the rows about ordering.

FAQ

Questions from distributors already running an ERP

Is VOS a NECS Entree alternative, and is it better than NECS Entree?
Neither question quite fits, and we would rather lead with that. Entree is the software your company runs on, and VOS handles how an order gets in. At getting an order out of a kitchen that will not use an order form, VOS is the better answer. At everything else Entree does the question does not apply: we have no ledger, no payables, no warehouse module and no proof of delivery, and no plan to build any of them. Compare them as like for like and one of the two will disappoint you badly.
Does Entree not already have customer ordering?
It does, and anyone telling you otherwise has not looked. They offer web order entry and mobile order entry, plus a rep order pad. All of it works by a person finding items and typing quantities. The accounts who were never going to do that are the ones this is for.
Will this touch our installation or our version?
No. We never need an account in it to set this up. We work from an export of your item lists, and the order comes back to you as a file or a feed. Your version, your upgrade schedule and your support arrangement are all unaffected.
We are thinking of moving off Entree. Can you help?
Not with the migration itself, no. Replacing it means replacing accounting, ledger, payables, EDI and warehouse functions together, and that is an ERP selection rather than an ordering decision. VOS can run before or after such a project, and orders can keep arriving as a file while the rest moves.
How do the costs compare?
They are not comparable, and a quote for one tells you nothing about the other. Neither of us publishes figures. Ours is quoted for your own book, and it is a far narrower decision than choosing the platform the whole company depends on.
How fast could this be live?
For most distributors this goes live inside 24 to 48 hours, and most kitchens get a first order in that day. There is no project here because there is nothing to integrate into, which is the main reason a NECS Entree alternative gets looked at without anybody intending to replace anything.
And the accounts that will only ever call?
They carry on calling, and your desk deals with those the way it always has. Be clear about the limit though: a call or a voicemail gets no order number from VOS, no timestamp and nothing moving in stock. Only what comes through the app does.
Where do the Entree details on this page come from?
Read off necs.com on 10 October 2026: the module list, the 1987 founding date, the Windows description and the web, mobile and rep ordering products. They publish no price and no implementation process, so this page guesses at neither. If any of it has moved on, the fault is here, not there.

Change the order, not the system

Twenty minutes, one order, and not a thing touched in your ERP.
