For Restaurant Operators

Not A MarginEdge Alternative: Speak Orders To Your Distributor

Use your voice to order in the app your distributor hands you, from their guide at the prices they set for you. You check every item before it goes, then get a numbered order and a confirmation on your phone. It works only if your distributor offers VoiceOrder Solutions.

MarginEdge Today, Plus Voice

MarginEdge, plus ordering out loud.
The same back office, one new step.

Read this table as one restaurant, before and after a distributor hands it our app. MarginEdge already reads your invoices, works out recipe costs and places orders with your vendors, so the ticks for those come from MarginEdge itself. The voice-ordering rows count only for distributors on our app. You are adding one step, not choosing a MarginEdge alternative.

Why operators look for an alternative to MarginEdge

MarginEdge reads invoices and tracks costs well. When someone looks for a MarginEdge competitor, it is sometimes about something else: what each location costs, or the order they still give a rep by phone. Those are separate questions, and this page is about the second one.

Built around the invoice, after the truck arrives

MarginEdge places orders too, but its center is the invoice: snap a photo and it is sorted into your costs and your books. Getting your order to the distributor is its own step, and you can change it without changing MarginEdge.
Integration icon

The price grows with each location

MarginEdge publishes one flat monthly price per location, plus add-ons such as a bar scale. A published price is a plus, and cost is a fair reason to weigh a MarginEdge alternative. It is a different question from how your orders get placed.
Integration icon

Its order guide is built from your invoices

MarginEdge fills each vendor's guide from the invoices you send in and updates prices as you order. On our app, the distributor loads what you buy and what you pay, and updates both when they change.
What You Get

You can change the order without a MarginEdge alternative

Voice Ordering

Say the order, then check every line

Stand in the walk-in, open the app and say what you need. The lines come up from your guide with that distributor. Fix anything that looks off, then send. Nothing leaves until you have looked it over.
You check each line before it is sent
Order at any hour, long after the rep has gone home
Saves 20 to 30 minutes compared with the same order by phone
Pulled onto the line midway? It keeps your place
Your Order Guide

Your distributor's items, at your prices

Your distributor builds the guide: the products you buy from them, under their own item codes. They set the items and the prices for your account, and when either one changes, they change it. You order from their list as it stands today, not one pieced together from past deliveries.
Only what you buy, with no catalog to scroll
Priced the way your distributor set your account
Kept current by the distributor, not by you

A Paper Trail

Proof of what you asked for

Each order sent from the app carries an order number, the date and the time, and a confirmation comes back to your phone. If a case goes missing, you can point to the order you sent instead of a phone call nobody wrote down.

MarginEdge picks up when the invoice lands

The spoken order is the step before the truck. Once the delivery arrives, its invoice goes into MarginEdge the way yours do now, and your food cost updates from there. Your counts, pars and recipes stay where they are.

Getting Started

Three steps, and your distributor does the setup

Nothing to install on a computer. The app runs on the phone you already carry.
1

Ask your distributor

If they offer VoiceOrder Solutions, they open your account and load your guide. Not sure if they do? Ask us and we will find out.
2

Put the app on your phone

Sign in on your phone, and your guide is already waiting.
3

Speak, check, send

Say it, look at each line, then send. That is the whole routine.

"I used to spend hours every week ordering food. Now it's simple, super easy, and I have free time to spend on other aspects of my restaurant."

Delivery Formats

Orders go out in the formats distributors already use

Each order leaves VOS as an email with a PDF, Excel or Word file, an EDI or API feed, or a QuickBooks entry. No one has to switch software to receive it.

Keep Both

MarginEdge runs the numbers, VoiceOrder Solutions carries the order

We are not a MarginEdge replacement. MarginEdge keeps the invoices, the costing and the books. VoiceOrder Solutions takes one job, for any distributor that runs it: the order to them, spoken and then checked before it goes.
Integration icon

Voice orders skip MarginEdge's order screen

The two products do not connect, so MarginEdge never sees that order, only the invoice that follows it. If something comes up short, show your distributor the confirmation and order number you got.
Integration icon

Count in MarginEdge, then say the list

Take your count there as usual and let MarginEdge's pars and on-hand show what is short. Then speak that distributor's share of it into our app.

Pick one home per distributor

Choose MarginEdge or our app for each distributor, so nothing is doubled. It suits a kitchen that prefers speaking an order to tapping it in.

From your voice to the distributor's desk

Twenty minutes on an example guide: an example order said aloud, reviewed and sent, then the copy the distributor gets, with its number on it.
FAQ

What restaurant operators ask us

Do I need a MarginEdge alternative for voice ordering?
No. MarginEdge handles invoices and costs, and it has ordering of its own. Where a distributor of yours provides our app, order from them by voice and let MarginEdge take care of everything after the delivery.
Is VoiceOrder Solutions better than MarginEdge?
Not at reading invoices, costing recipes, paying bills or closing your books: we do none of them. We do one narrower thing: a distributor order spoken aloud, from the guide that distributor keeps for you, and checked before it goes. If ordering is what sent you looking for a MarginEdge alternative, that narrower job, beside it, may be all you need.
Are VoiceOrder Solutions and MarginEdge linked?
No. Nothing links the two, no data moves between them, and neither company supports the other. Anything you say into our app travels to your distributor, not into MarginEdge.
Will this work with every supplier I buy from?
Only with distributors who use VoiceOrder Solutions. MarginEdge can send orders to far more of your suppliers than we reach, so stay with it for the rest, and check with your other suppliers about our app.
Can the app still put the wrong item on my order?
Yes, it can. Each line shows up for you to look over before anything is sent, so you can change it or take it out. That review is your safeguard, and a quick glance can still let an error slip past. Orders you phone or leave on voicemail get no order number from us; only orders sent in the app are numbered.
How do I get set up, and what does it cost?
Setup goes through your distributor: they add you and upload your guide, and most kitchens place a first order the same day. If yours does not offer it, or you are not sure, contact us and we will connect you with the right person. Cost is a question to put to your distributor, who gives you the app. We do not publish a price. MarginEdge, for its part, lists its price on its website.
Does that delivery still show up in MarginEdge's food cost?
Yes, once its invoice is in. Send that invoice in as you do every other one, and the delivery is counted with the rest of your costs.
Where do the MarginEdge details on this page come from?
Read off marginedge.com as it stood on 27 October 2026: their feature pages, price list and release notes. Their restaurant totals and time-saving claims are left off this page. If any of it has changed, the mistake is at our end.

Let MarginEdge track the costs, and say your next order instead of calling it in.

Ask your rep, or ask us, whether the app is open to your kitchen, and we will show you what the distributor receives from a voice order.
